you are here: EDUCATION
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God.”
Paul, Romans 12:

Christian education doesn't end with graduation from Sunday School or Confirmation Class; instead, it is a life-long process. There are exciting ideas to be explored and fascinating journeys to be taken as together, we try to grow into our ‘full stature' as Christians and learn to integrate our understanding of our faith with our 21st Century world-view, thus entering into a deeper, fuller more integrated understanding of our relationship with God. As has been said a number of times, God does not call upon us to hang up our brains along with our coats and hats when we enter church!

Adult Programs at St. Augustine's

Education for Ministry

This is an in depth program developed by the University of Sawanee in the U.S., for those wishing to make a commitment to deepen and broaden their understanding of Christianity. The group meets once a week on Wednesday evenings from September to June, and the full program takes four years. For more information, contact June Miller or our Rector, Bob Peel.

Encounters

This group meets on Sunday mornings 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. in the church basement lounge. Types of study and topics vary according to the wishes of the group. There is no formal membership, so why not drop in and see what is happening - it is always interesting.

Other Adult Groups (Fine for teens, too!)

Monday Evening Groups.

There are two 6 week sessions, one during October and November, the other in February and March. During 2009/10, we will be using a study series called “First Light - Jesus and the Kingdom of God”, featuring theologians John Dominic Crossan and Marcus Borg. This uses a DVD and discussion-based approach. No previous knowledge is needed. In September, more information and sign-up lists will be available in the church, or by calling Val McCormack at 780-410-1571 or val_mc@telus.net.

Sunday Morning Groups

These will take place from time to time at 11:30 a.m. and will be publicized in the church or on the web site. These will usually be follow-up sessions to issues rising from the Rector's Homily or the scriptures for the day.
