Liturgy
St. Augustine's Worship Services are Sundays at 8 a.m. for Holy Eucharist without music, and 10 a.m. for Holy Eucharist Service with music and choir. St. Augustine's uses The Book of Alternative Services for all services, as well as on most other occasions. At times, there is an "instructed" portion of the service, an opportunity to refresh our knowledge about the origins and meaning of some of the things we do. Some services offer opportunities to explore innovative or experimental ways to experience and respond to God's presence. Parishioners play an active role in the worship experience each week.
Altar Guild
Altar Guild members provide valuable help "behind the scenes." They prepare the altar for all services, including baptisms and weddings, and are responsible for the preparation and cleaning of Eucharistic vessels and linens for our worship services. Major festivals are unique opportunities for the decoration and special preparation of the sanctuary.
Lay Administrants
Lay Administrants assist the clergy with preparation for the Eucharist, and administer the chalice during the Eucharist. They may read lessons as well.
Servers
Servers assist the clergy throughout the service by lighting and extinguishing the Altar candles, processing with the Cross and candle during reading of the Gospel, accepting the offering from the Ushers, and proclaiming the Dismissal.
Readers
Parishioners are encouraged to join the rotation for reading one of the two lessons at each service. Photocopies of the lessons and instructions are available the week prior.
Prayer Leaders
Anyone with a heart for prayer may speak to the Rector about becoming involved in writing and offering the prayers of the people. A rotation list is prepared each year.
Music - Choir
The choir is a group of enthusiastic singers who lead the 10 a.m. service utilizing traditional and contemporary music. Choir Director Dave Brehmer accompanies the choir with organ, piano and, on occasion, a capella. No singing experience is necessary, only a love of music! At Easter and Christmas, extra voices are always welcome and afford one the opportunity to "try it out." The choir practices Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m.
Music - Bell Choir
On special occasions throughout the year, St. Augustine's Hand Bell group contribute to the musical expression in the service. A multi-aged group plays this beautiful, traditional bell music. The Bells practice, as required, prior to the special services.
Ushers
At the 10 a.m. service, a rotation of two Ushers (couples encouraged) provides parishioners with a Book of Alternative Services, a copy of the worship service bulletin, and any other insert required for that specific day. They are responsible for passing and bringing forward the collection plates. Easter and Christmas require additional Ushers. The Ushers greet latecomers and assist, when needed, in finding seating.
Greeters
A rotation of two greeters (couples encouraged) welcome parishioners upon entry to the Church. They provide our "best foot forward" approach to newcomers and guests, ensuring they feel welcome and included by introducing them to other parishioners and encouraging them to stay and visit during coffee hour after the service.
